Award of the Military Cross
2nd Lt. Forrest Blake Phillips, R.F.A. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a forward section, which had night firing until dawn, after which it was to continue firing until ordered to stop, being the whole time under machine-gun, gas, and H.E. shell fire. By his personal example and coolness he kept the men at their guns under most trying conditions. Box respirators had to be worn, and to relieve layers, etc., he took turns at the guns himself. Finally, he successfully withdrew the guns.
